Privacy and legal notice
turismo.liguria.it is an independent travel guide: it is not linked to the Liguria Region or any other public body, carries no advertising and sells no data. Here we explain in plain words which data we process, why, and what your rights are, as required by Articles 13 and 14 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).
Who processes the data
The data controller is , operator of turismo.liguria.it. For any privacy request write to ; for anything else to or through the Contact page.
What data we process and why
Browsing. Like any website, the server logs IP address, date and time, requested page and browser type. This keeps the site running and protects it from abuse; the legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use it to identify or profile you. When you send a form we keep an encrypted fingerprint of your IP address for one hour, only to block automated submissions.
Contact form. Name, email and message are used only to reply to you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, steps taken at your request).
Error reports. Text, page and optional email are used to fix the guide and, if needed, to reply (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Submitted events. Event details are published in the calendar after a check; the email is only used for questions and is not published (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Location. On pages with a map your browser asks whether to share your location, so that the nearest places come first. The calculation happens only on your device: your location is never sent to our server or stored. You can refuse or withdraw it in your browser settings.
Maps. Only with your consent does your browser load map images from the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which receive your IP address (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Statistics. Only with your consent do we use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, which pages are read, from which countries and on which devices, so that we can improve the guide. Google receives your IP address (which it does not store), information about your browser and device, the page you visit and a random code saved in a cookie; we only look at statistical reports and do not link this data to your identity. We do not use the data for advertising, ad personalisation or Google signals. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Cookies and similar tools
We use no profiling or advertising cookies. In your browser’s storage (localStorage) we only keep your chosen language and your privacy choices: these are technical tools needed for the service, which do not require consent. The only non-technical cookies are the Google Analytics measurement cookies, which are saved only if you accept them.
The banner lets you accept or refuse external maps and statistics separately: closing it with the X means refusing everything. You can change your mind at any time with the “Privacy settings” link at the bottom of every page: if you withdraw statistics, Google Analytics stops at once and we delete its cookies. Otherwise we ask again after six months.
Google Analytics cookies (only after your consent): _ga tells visitors apart with a random code; _ga_VD8NN0VTY5 remembers the browsing session. They last six months from your last visit at most and, if you withdraw consent, we delete them straight away.
A technical session cookie is used only in the management area reserved for the editors, not during normal browsing.
Who we share data with
Data is stored by the site’s hosting provider (Hostinger), which processes it on our behalf as a data processor. Map images come from the OpenStreetMap Foundation only with your consent.
If you accept statistics, the measurement data is processed by Google Ireland Limited (Ireland) on our behalf as data processor, under the Google Analytics data processing terms. Google does not send us your IP address or any other data that identifies you.
We do not sell or hand over data to anyone. Links to external services (navigation apps such as Google Maps or Apple Maps, venues’ websites, Wikipedia) lead to sites with their own privacy policies, which receive data only if you open them.
Transfers outside the European Union
The OpenStreetMap Foundation is based in the United Kingdom, a country covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission. Any other transfer only takes place with the safeguards of Articles 44 et seq. GDPR.
Google Analytics may transfer data to Google LLC in the United States. Google LLC participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission (10 July 2023); transfers are also covered by the standard contractual clauses provided by Google.
How long we keep data
Messages, error reports and event submissions: up to 12 months after the request is closed. Server logs: only as long as strictly necessary, as set by the hosting provider.
Google Analytics data: kept in Google’s systems for 14 months at most, then deleted. The cookies last six months from your last visit at most.
Your rights
At any time you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict its processing, receive it in a readable format, object to processing and withdraw consent (Articles 15–22 GDPR) by writing to . We reply within one month.
If you believe the processing breaks the law, you can lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or with the authority of your country.
We make no decisions based solely on automated processing. The site’s forms are not intended for people under 14.
Legal notes
Sources. Names, addresses, contacts, opening hours and services come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL licence); patron saint days, population and altitude from Wikidata; photos from Wikimedia Commons, with authors and licences in the Photo and data credits. The descriptive texts and the design of the site are original.
Accuracy. Opening hours, prices and openings change: before you go, check with the venue, the accommodation or the event organiser. If you find something wrong, Report an error.
Order of listings. Places recommended by our editors come first, followed by those with the most information (photos, website, opening hours, contacts, services) that were checked recently; among venues, restaurants, trattorias and osterias come before bars and takeaway. If you share your location, the nearest come first. Recommendations are our own independent choices: no business pays to appear, to be recommended or to rank higher. Businesses that turn out to be closed are removed as soon as we notice.
User content and notices. Content sent by visitors, such as submitted events, remains the responsibility of its authors. To report illegal or inaccurate content, request removal or contact us as an authority, the single point of contact is (in Italian or English).
