Castelnuovo Magra is a hill village above the Magra plain, close to Tuscany, strung along the street that links the castle of the bishops of Luni to the church of Santa Maria Maddalena. In the castle, in 1306, Dante Alighieri signed the peace with the bishop of Luni as the Malaspina family’s representative.
The church holds a Calvary attributed to Pieter Brueghel the Younger. The hills around are covered in vines: this is Vermentino dei Colli di Luni country, to be tasted at the local wineries.
