Levanto is the northern gateway to the Cinque Terre: from here Monterosso is five minutes away by train, or you can walk there on the path over Punta Mesco, past the ruins of the hermitage of Sant’Antonio. It has a long beach popular with surfers for its waves, and a medieval village with a 13th-century town loggia and the black-and-white striped church of Sant’Andrea.
The old coastal railway has become a cycle and footpath to Bonassola and Framura. With plenty of hotels, rooms, campsites and holiday homes, it is the most convenient base for seeing the Cinque Terre without staying there.
