Balestrino

Balestrino is known for its ghost village: the old town, perched below the castle of the Del Carretto family, was abandoned in the 1950s because of the risk of landslides, and its houses have stood empty ever since. It is usually seen from outside, as the area is closed for safety.

Life today is in the settlement of Borgo, home to the town hall, among olive groves and hills a few kilometres from Loano. The patron saint is Saint Andrew, celebrated on 30 November.
