Cosseria stands at 500 metres on the hills of the Bormida valley, and its name is tied to 1796: among the ruins of its castle, Austrian and Piedmontese soldiers held out for two days against Napoleon’s army during the Italian campaign. An Italian army infantry division was later named after the battle.

Today it is a municipality of quiet hamlets, with an unusual bicycle museum and a few bed and breakfasts.
