Laigueglia

Laigueglia is an old fishing village between Alassio and Andora, with colourful houses lined up along the beach and alleys running straight down to the sea. Above the roofs rise the two bell towers of the Baroque church of San Matteo, and on the seafront stands the tower built against pirates.

It is one of the Borghi più belli d’Italia. Cycling fans know it for the Trofeo Laigueglia, the race that traditionally opens the Italian season; in summer the village re-enacts the landing of the Saracens.
