Finale Ligure is three villages in one. Finalmarina is the seaside part, with its long beach and palm-lined promenade; Finalborgo, a little inland, is still enclosed by its walls, the old capital of the Del Carretto marquisate and one of the Borghi più belli d’Italia; Varigotti is a fishing village with pastel houses on the sand and the Baia dei Saraceni.
The hinterland is a paradise for climbing and mountain biking, with crags and trails on the Manie plateau and in the Ponci valley, where you still cross the Roman bridges of the Via Julia Augusta. Castel Gavone watches over Finalborgo, and the convent of Santa Caterina houses the Finale archaeological museum, with finds from the caves of the area such as the Arene Candide.
