A few kilometres from the French border in the Roia valley, Airole is a cluster of stone houses squeezed along the river, with terraced olive groves rising behind. It has a station on the Ventimiglia–Cuneo railway, one of the most scenic lines in the Alps, and includes the hamlets of Collabassa, Noceire and Giauma.
Come here for quiet and for walks between the river and the terraces; for everything else, Ventimiglia is just over ten kilometres away.
