Apricale makes an impression before you even arrive: stone houses tumble down the hillside in steps, with the Castello della Lucertola on top and a small square just below it, the real heart of the village. The castle holds a small museum, and Apricale is one of the Borghi più belli d’Italia, Italy’s most beautiful villages.
It is a place to explore on foot, through covered alleys and stairways, ideally with lunch in one of the village trattorias. The Madonna del Sollievo is also worth a stop.
