Pornassio climbs up to the Colle di Nava, the pass between the Arroscia valley and Piedmont, where several forts were built in the 19th century and can still be seen: Pozzanghi, Bellarasco and the Forte Centrale. The pass is also known for lavender, which colours the meadows in summer.
The vineyards here produce Ormeasco di Pornassio, a mountain red wine. The town hall is in the hamlet of San Luigi; to stay, there are a couple of hotels and two campsites.
