Bordighera is the town of palm trees: it has grown them for centuries and still weaves the parmureli, the plaited palm fronds for Palm Sunday. In the 19th century it became a winter retreat for many British visitors, who left behind villas, gardens and an international library; Claude Monet painted here in 1884.
Don’t miss the Bicknell Museum, named after the English naturalist who studied the rock carvings of Mont Bégo, the Pallanca exotic garden and Villa Garnier, built by the architect of the Paris Opéra. In the evening, everyone strolls along the Lungomare Argentina.
