Pigna is a medieval village in the upper Nervia valley, at 280 metres, its houses arranged in rings around the hill like the scales of a pine cone, which is what its name means. The chapel of San Bernardo preserves frescoes by Giovanni Canavesio, and the village has two museums: La Terra e la Memoria and one devoted to the food of the upper valley.

Just below the centre, sulphurous springs feed the Pigna thermal baths. The municipality climbs all the way to the French border, with mountain huts for hikers, and also includes the hamlet of Buggio.
