Mendatica is a shepherds’ village at almost 800 metres in the upper Arroscia valley, at the foot of the Ligurian Alps. Long tied to transhumance, every August it celebrates the «white cuisine» of the shepherds: dishes without tomatoes, made with flour, potatoes, leeks and cheese.
For families there is an adventure park and a small zoo, while two museums tell the story of life on the border and in the mountain pastures. It is also a good base for hikes towards Monte Saccarello, the highest peak in Liguria.
