Chiavari is the town of arcades: its old centre is crossed by long porticoed lanes full of shops, which make it the commercial heart of the Tigullio. The Chiavari chair, the «chiavarina», was born here in the early 19th century, extremely light and still made by local craftsmen.
Worth seeing are the cathedral of Nostra Signora dell’Orto, the archaeological museum with finds from the pre-Roman necropolis, and the seafront walk to the marina. The fathers of both Garibaldi and Mazzini came from Chiavari families.
