Montoggio

Montoggio lies at 440 metres in the valley of the Laccio stream, inland from Genoa, and was the stronghold of the Fieschi family: after their conspiracy against Andrea Doria in 1547, the Republic of Genoa besieged and destroyed their castle, whose ruins still stand above the village.

It is a summer retreat for the Genoese, with five hotels, rooms and a campsite, and trails through the woods of the valley.
