Cogorno

Cogorno is a municipality of scattered hamlets on the hills above Lavagna, and it is the land of the Fieschi, the counts who gave the Church two popes. In San Salvatore, now home to the town hall, stands the Basilica dei Fieschi, commissioned in the 13th century by Pope Innocent IV: a Romanesque-Gothic church with a black-and-white striped façade, among the finest on the eastern Riviera.

Next to it is the Counts’ palace, built with the same two-coloured stone. The patron saint is Saint Lawrence, celebrated on 10 August.
